Cookie and Privacy Policy
Your privacy is very important to us. Accordingly, we have developed this Policy in order for you to understand how we collect, use, communicate and disclose and make use of personal information. The following outlines our privacy policy.
We MAY collect:
- IP addresses, browser information, and other HTTP headers (this shorter, less-technical list of commonly used headers may be more informative, but is older and less inclusive) needed to accept website requests and administer the website. This information is sent by you [technically, by any program that requests a page from us] and lets us see what sites (including search pages) link to us, as well as watch how people use our site.
If you make an account, we DO collect:
- Your email address, so we can communicate with you about that account. Please keep it accurate and up-to-date.
- A username to uniquely identify your account. We will suggest a random username, but you are free to choose something else.
- A personal name, so we can communicate with you without revealing your username or being super awkward ("Hey you! No, the other guy--you, you with the hat!"). We have no expectation that these names accurately represent anyone in the real world, and request that you not use your legal name or a known alias on our site.
- Activity logs, including usernames and timestamps for certain actions, in order to administer the website.
- These logs MAY include activities such as (but not limited to)...
- Logins/logouts
- Password reset requests
- Account creation requests
- Account deletion requests
If you login to your account, we use the following cookies:
- We DO use a session cookie to keep you logged in during your visit.
- You MAY ask for a persistent cookie to keep you logged in beween visits.
- The above two items are the only cookies we use. Please contact us if you have reason to believe our site is using additional cookies.
Having said that--if you contact us by email for any reason, we MAY collect:
- Your email address.
- Any name associated with that email address in the email headers.
- Other names and email addresses in other email headers (such as "To:", "CC:", or "Reply-To:", but there are many possible headers). Please check with the provider of your mail client for more information on what headers it may send and what options you have to control them.
- Any personal information you include in the email, whether we requested it or not.
We do NOT collect:
- Street address, credit card information, or other information associated with online purchases. This is a "free-as-in-beer" website, so we have no need of this information. (If you really want to send us money, we'll work something out without using this site.)
- Information intended to track your browsing habits. HTTP headers include the "referer" site that hosted any link you used to get to our site. If you visit us regularly or create an account, we MAY be able to link some IP addresses to you. We DON'T use analytic cookies or ads, so we don't need additional tracking information.
- If you are NOT logged into an account, we do NOT store cookies of any kind.
Please note:
- As our policy is to NOT track your browsing habits or history across time or third-party sites, we do not respond differently to Do Not Track signals.
- We do NOT currently have a community-oriented section (forum, comments, ability to view other user accounts, etc) so any information we do collect will not be shared with other users.
- If we change our MAY/DO/DO NOT policy (such as to include site analytic cookies or add a forum), we will update this page and email our account holders.
Retention policy
- We DO retain activity logs for the life of the account.
- We MAY retain activity logs for an additional period of time, to administer the site.
- We DO retain emails until the reason for contacting us is resolved.
- We MAY retain emails for an additional period of time, to better resolve repeated contacts.
- We MAY retain any records for an additional period of time, as required by law.
Regarding "account delete" requests:
- Users are able to immediately delete their own accounts at-will from the "My Account" page.
- Activity logs for a deleted account will NOT be deleted at that time. If and where a username is mentioned in those logs, it will NOT be deleted.
In general:
- We will NOT sell emails or account information, nor will we share them with outside companies or persons except as required by law.
- Before or at the time of collecting personal information, we will identify the purposes for which information is being collected.
- We will collect and use personal information solely with the objective of fulfilling those purposes specified by us and for other compatible purposes, unless we obtain the consent of the individual concerned or as required by law.
- We will only retain personal information as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes.
- We will collect personal information by lawful and fair means and, where appropriate, with the knowledge or consent of the individual concerned.
- We will protect personal information by reasonable security safeguards against loss or theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification. Please remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. This is another reason we collect as little data as we can for as short a duration as possible. In the event that we are made aware of a security breach, we will inform our users. We ask all our users to practice good account hygeine.
- We will make readily available to customers information about our policies and practices relating to the management of personal information.
- We do not target our site or products to children under the age of 13. If a parent or legal guardian needs assistance in deleting the account of someone under the age of 13, they should contact us.
We are committed to conducting our business in accordance with these principles in order to ensure that the confidentiality of personal information is protected and maintained.
If you have any questions about our policies, or would like to speak with us about your data, please email admin@shopkeeper.cc
